TYRES

We carry an extensive stock of tyres on site and offer fitment while you wait with no appointment necessary. Whether you are looking for an ultra low priced budget tyre or a premium tyre with a similar level of saving you need look no further than Hunters of Linlithgow.

When pricing tyres please be aware that the majority of other tyre outlets will make an additional charge for new valves, balancing, vat and disposal of your old tyres. At Hunters of Linlithgow our tyre prices are not only unbeatable but also FULLY INCLUSIVE.

Our friendly team of highly skilled tyre specialists will advise you on all aspects of your vehicle's requirements. Whether you are experiencing balancing issues, uneven wear, punctures or merely normal wear and tear we will advise you of the best remedial action to take to remedy any problems.
 

All tyre manufacturers use the same specification. Using the example shown above we have listed the meaning of each of the items specified. You will need this information when you order a replacement tyre, as the same model of car might have upgraded tyres according to the wheel size on the car or the choices made by the previous owner.

In the example shown the dimensions are as follows:

Width - 265 millimetres

Profile - 40 Height of the tyre sidewall as a percentage of the width. In this case 40% of 265 millimetres

Construction - R (All tyres are now radial)

Rim Diameter - 17 inches (diameter of the wheel)

Load Index - 96 Some vehicles require tyres that are rated to carry a higher load and therefore need a higher inflation pressure (such as on vans). This information is contained within the manufacturer's handbook and the tyres may carry the marking RF (reinforced) or XL (extra load).

Speed Rating - Y Tyre should always be replaced with the same or higher speed rating

The ratings are as follows:

S = 113mph, T – 118mph, H = 130mph, V = 149mph, Z = 150mph, W = 168mph, Y = 186mph

You should also find a code confirming European Type Approval of the tyre.

E4 - ECE type approval mark. This confirms that the tyre has been tested and approved by the European Regulatory Authorities. All Tyres sold by Hunters of Linlithgow carry this mark.

TYRE WEAR

our safety is our main concern at Hunters of Linlithgow. Tyres are the only component on your car that is in contact with the road surface and it is therefore crucial your tyres are up to the job. As your tyres wear performance drops off affecting both handling and braking. To check whether your tyres require replacement there are wear indicators located in the middle of the tread (shown above). Once your tyre has worn down level with this indicator the tyre has reached the legal limit 1.6 mm and requires renewal.
